Quick answer
The resource grind in Valheim is serious, but that's where I can help. Instead, get their attention and lure them to a finewood providing tree and dodge their attacks. To craft the table you will require iron, finewood, and leather scraps while the kitill, requires tin, copper and again, leather scraps. Tar can be used to make a whole new set of darkwood build pieces and furniture items like the long table, black metal chest, and comfort-providing hot tub.
When it comes time to expand your base you’re going to need a lot of wood. Today we'll be working with a 600 wood and 100 core wood. What you might not know yet is the secret to conquering them easily. You basically want to bring 10 Eitr wood, 10 refined Eitr mandibles, and also one hook to it.
This axe has its place unlocking the ability to chop birch and oak trees for the valuable finewood resource, but like previous axes, its damage and attack speed leave much better options from the biome. As you progress, you'll find those of elevating power, starting with wood, upgrading to bronze, iron, silver, black metal, black marble, flame metal, and finally blood gold for the Deep North. When capturing boar, you can use a round pole fence or wood wall. None have Eikthyr, any wooden structures, almost nothing to speak of.
Material basics
One of the things you will need to collect is wood from these charred trees . Surprisingly, you gain woodcutting experience despite not damaging the tree. Just chop down the tree and it will randomly drop 10 wood. The tools specifically, you're going to need the wooden ones.
Like we go for that tree up there, that should be fine. When you're actually in the game, it's generally fine, but even then, you will see a few dips and drops here and there. hyphen backup short is a short-term backup that Val makes and the interval is defined in seconds by the number next to it. I pray to thee that wood would find its way to me.
Alternatively, you can use wooden or stronger material poles like core or iron to create a frame for the foundation of your build. Destroy them for an excellent source of finewood, and make sure you dig beneath them as each has a 74.9% chance to spawn a chest filled with valuables. By using the finewood chair you can place it in such a way where it clips between sunken crypt gates. So, we're going to start throwing some workbench upgrades in here for whenever we get the chance to make stuff like finewood bows and all of that.
Where to find it
But, this is more of an aesthetic base and it's on a difficulty where I can handle the raid, so it should be fine. Stop holding down the interact button when placing resources into a refining station such as your kiln, furnace, or later windmills and eitr refineries. Core wood works nicely as an early game material with sufficient strength to support the structure. Grab the crew bow for the least stamina usage and a ton of wood arrows and stand basically touching twig and spam drawback and release.
Here, you can in theory upgrade your gear far higher than the max by using idols found in chests around the map ranging from wood in the meadows to blood gold in the deep north. Just like fine wine, some things just get better with age. In my case, I decide to extend the space between my wooden and black metal chests. One of my biggest complaints back in 2021 was that certain elements of progression could feel a bit grindy, but even that's adjustable now with fine-tuned difficulty settings.
Two, the vertical drop off of the ranged attack is more consistent than the bow once you get comfortable with it. First, build a center pole 10 m high. Cooking stations, wood piles, and campfires can all be built without a workbench and can impede enemy progress. These axes are accessed in the Meadows biome and actually let you chop down finewood trees before you get the bronze axe, but they can be tricky to find.
How to farm it
And as an aside, you can get corewood normally reserved for the black forest at these campsites with the same method. The objective is to make a simple cabin in the Black Forest. Mountain biomes can be found all throughout your Valheim world. Three is the finewood bow, the first REAL bow the game offers.
Wood idols are used for meadows tier gear, black metal for plains, you get the idea. This seed gives you the best chance to find both early, having four of the wood house two structures and two of the six variant extremely close to spawn. As an alternative, this seed has one instance of each wood house two and six even closer to spawn with backup locations just a little further out than the previous seed. So be sure to collect this wood.
Some of that wood will be ancient bark, which kind of looks like moldy planks of wood. And so, we're going to need the ignition wood, the iter, and the mandible. Hyphen backup long is a long-term backup that Val makes and the interval is also defined in seconds. Of course, they couldn't have built all this without the steady supply of wood from our sponsor.
Crafting uses
Building a beautiful home requires a TON of wood if you’re an uncivilized caveman like me there is a good chance you’ve left a wasteland of stumps around your base following a big project. However, you might want to make sure you have enough finewood on you so that you can clip out once you’ve dealt with the miniboss. The third troll, which we used to help us get finewood so we could make a finewood bow. Again, core wood works well as a temporary supports to extend the ramp.
And third, it has incredible attack speed and pierce dealing damage making it viable even beyond the meadows into Valheims second biome, the Black Forest. Any less and the farm won't work, conflicting with the limiting breeding mechanics in the game. Rather, grab 4 finewood and place a chair such that it intercepts with the iron gate of the crypt. These are really easy to craft, needing only two fine wood and either a thistle or dandelion, respectively.
Finewood too can be gathered early by chopping beach trees deliberately to fall on birch trees or by pushing logs into them. We're obviously greatly increasing our resource constraints since last challenge with 600 wood and 100 core wood, which I have stashed away in the chests here. And unlike swamps, a few small mountains can generate near your spawn. So to do this, you first need to put a workbench down and then you can build wooden ladders or wooden platforms around the tree to climb it.
Tips
And you can see that it needs the flamemetal, embers, and finewood in order to make it. It both gives you extra wood and will improve the aesthetic and performance of your game. While dodging its attacks, the big blue boy can break copper nodes for you or even birch trees for finewood allowing you to access the material without the bronze axe. And back at base, that's exactly what we did because for elder, which we are kind of prepping for soon, we need as good of a finewood bow as I can make.
But, as you'll see in a moment, you should be fine without them. Second, most creatures in Valheim will have resistances to damage types taking reduced damage from them as well as weaknesses receiving increased damage from those types. For weapons, bring the bronze mace, stagbreaker for AoE damage in Finewood bow with a metric poop ton of fire arrows for range. Plus, the early axes actually let you chop down finewood trees before obtaining the bronze axe.
I recommend building your beehives on wooden posts to elevate them out of harms way. Let's grab our first stack of wood. The primary rule for a mountain biome to generate is height. And then you can go into your building menu and grab the wood ladder like this.
