Thanks for tuning in and welcome back. The first and absolute last of this weapon class you will find on my list is the flint spear. As you progress, you'll find those of elevating power, starting with wood, upgrading to bronze, iron, silver, black metal, black marble, flame metal, and finally blood gold for the Deep North. In this case, for the Frostfire Axe, a black metal battle idol found in the end game zones.
Across the game, there will be 13 of these unique trinkets with two per biome starting in the Black Forest and one for the ocean. Valheim's mountains are beautiful, mysterious, and deadly. The mushroom variant, specifically, can also be found in the Black Forest. To find one, you need to be at least 1,000 m from the world center, be between 5 and 20 m in altitude, and can only be found in the meadows, black forest, swamp, and mountains. Of course, before getting to the black forest you will need deer hide and meat for armor and sustenance. And as an aside, you can get corewood normally reserved for the black forest at these campsites with the same method.
Material basics
Transitioning to the black forest you will find 8 trophies to chase down beginning with the plentiful greydwarf with a slight drop chance of 5%. So, Vikings must settle for a max quality of two for the leather set before advancing into the black forest. Crossbows will be leveled the exact same way, but replace the workbench with a black forge for repairs on your arbalest. Leveling your club skill early and upgrading it will begin to pay dividends especially as your progress into the black forest to do battle with the blunt weakened skeletons.
It's probably worth the iteration too, as this weapon is easily the most powerful metals weapon these days, making the early game a breeze. Another hack for the hammer is to detect metal beneath the earth. Locks can be ridden by crafting a lock saddle from 10 leather scraps, 20 linen thread, and 15 black metal. We also have a new black forest cave, which is a bear cave, and it looks identical to a troll cave.
If we can get totems and some other like some black metal and stuff from this area and take that back to base, I'm happy with that. I know there aren’t any trinkets in the meadows, but this weapons so good I take it well into the black forest ALL the time. The resource grind in Valheim is serious, but that's where I can help. Even though the black sword has higher slashing damage.
Where to find it
The good news is the Black Forest has everything you need to start producing bronze, so you can get your farm started pretty quickly, and you definitely should once you found carrot seeds. In my example I input ‘spawn’ followed by ‘swordblackmetal’, two for two swords and finally, 4, for quality 4 blackmetal swords. Haldor only spawns in the Black Forest. The first thing you should pay attention to when you arrive in this region is a new type of metal.

The Black forest introduces Vikings to the bronze age and again has 8 weapons to offer with the worst of the bunch being the bronze axe. To give an example you’ll need both a kiln and smelter to refine metal in the black forest which each require 5 surtling core. There's even some black cores in this one, and some metals that are throwback to previous ages. And whether I wanted to get totems and black metal from here or not, I needed to clear this one out specifically so that we would have it free for the Yagle fight.
My choice for the black forest might be a little controversial as its not really a black forest weapon in the abyssal razor but hear me out! First, build a center pole 10 m high. So, I got a lot of really nice feedback on this method of building. It costs far fewer leather scraps than the crude bow but still provides you ranged capabilities with its secondary attack.
Crafting uses
In the Black Forest, pay special attention to the text when entering troll caves. So, you will be crafting the molds at your black forge, and you are going to need to upgrade it a little bit. Tar can be used to make a whole new set of darkwood build pieces and furniture items like the long table, black metal chest, and comfort-providing hot tub. In this guide, I'm going to teach you all the tips and tricks you need to know to survive and thrive in this inhospitable biome.
Also at 500 m are the kallig patches which take the typical black forest and strip it of all trees and ramp up the number of stones you can find. And fourth are in the black forest at these contested towers. One of the key resources in this biome will be sap which can only be obtained by extraction via the sap extractor requiring blackmetal, yggdrassil wood, and the dvergr extractor. Your best bet for finding these creatures will be at night where they become common spawns in the black forest but also in the meadows after defeating the Elder.
The metal forged by combining the biome's tin and copper can also be used to craft the bronze armor. Seven is the copper knife, which is awarded points for being the most accessible black forest class weapon requiring copper, not bronze, but it suffers from the same short reach. Speedrunners can take advantage of the seeker soldiers attacks to break the biomes tree trunks without the need for crafting the blackmetal axe. Generally speaking, you can expect something like meadows meets black forest, but obviously snow covered as Grimcore described in our preview session.
Tips
But along with that came a ton of black metal and both pieces of crops, which we will plant right under the Yagoth altar until we do the fight. The plains has 3 strong candidates for best weapon but I tend to lean into the blackmetal atgeir. Any less and the farm won't work, conflicting with the limiting breeding mechanics in the game. I think it's a nice way to bridge the gap with some of you survival players who build out dev commands and need an idea of the resource requirements for certain structures.
Use the spear throw to hunt deer for their hide rather than the expensive bow. Flint and every variety of metal bar can now be placed as stacks, either as a decoration or just to save some storage space. There is only one additional upgrade station for the black forge with them aprons. Three new battleaxes have been added in the crystal, black metal, and skull splitter in the mountains, plains, and Mistlands biomes, respectively.
I'll show you how to traverse the mountain safely, mine silver early, clear frost caves easily, grab the best weapons and armor, and absolutely crush the boss motor. Best of them all at this distance are ruined black forest. With the swamp being covered with so much water, the turnup seeds spawn far less frequently than carrots in the Black Forest for comparison. While other metals like copper and iron can be found naturally in the biome, blackmetal cannot.
