Quick answer

Getting max skills in Valheim has completely changed in 2026 with new tools like Twig and Trinket making it easier than ever. Including, whatever the heck is going on inside this box. If lucky, they will make contact, breaking the tree, rewarding you with its riches. I'll show you my skill leveling dojos to max every skill in the game including this revolutionary blood magic setup that turns Valheim's most notoriously painful skill into one of the easiest to max.

But before that, if you learn how to animation cancel, you can take your damage output to a WHOLE other level. Similarly, use them to smash tin and copper veins if you have yet to craft a pickaxe. But first, let's max your weapon skills. Most weapons in valheim perform combos of 3 attacks with the third dealing twice the base damage.

The first thing you want to do is build a small sheltered hut with a fire nearby as key to leveling your skills is optimizing for stamina regeneration. By animation cancelling you can expand the combo to 4 adding an additional double dealing attack in roughly the same amount of time. Both rested and resting will elevate its rate and the rested being especially important also having the hidden perk of doubling experience gain. The first of two ways to execute this is to block cancel.

Command basics

Make sure you eat three of the max stamina foods you have available and consider lingering stamina tasty meads and equipping the bronze pendant to maximize stamina regeneration. Approach your target and hit attack, following the attack your character will look to return to his block stance. From there, place a sheltered workbench in your hut and with your back to the bench, place a twig dummy just in front of you but facing away from you. With his back turned, he won't return fire allowing you free reign.

Equip your weapon of choice and spam attacking Twig. Each hit will give you 1.5 XP per hit for all melee types with spears being the exception leveling faster with 2.25 experience per strike. I recommend you use the wooden types for each class or just your naked knuckles for the fist skill as they use the least amount of stamina per attack. As your weapon breaks, turn to the bench and repair or when your rested buff expires, leave the room, replenish the buff and get back to work.

In the late game, you can take the strategy further by wearing the full ask armor paired with the Berserker meads. By combining the meads 80% reduction in attack stamina usage with the 20% reduction from the set bonus, you can attack free of stamina. The meads have no cool down either and can be continuously popped if you have the materials. Here is a summary of all the melee skills, the benefit of having them at max level, and the experience you gain per hit.

How to use commands

I'll make sure to put this graphic on screen for future skills as we go through them in the video. Overall, at max level, you can expect an increase of 240% minimum damage and an 81.82% higher max damage roll for an average increase to damage output of over 140%. For bows and crossbows, we're going to use the exact same setup. Grab the crew bow for the least stamina usage and a ton of wood arrows and stand basically touching twig and spam drawback and release.

Since you're so close, you can't miss your target getting 1.5 experience per arrow while minimizing drawback time and stamina use. You can also consider wearing the root set and wolf site trinket to buff your bow skill to help move things along. And of all your skills, I probably recommend leveling your bow skill the most as it not only increases your damage output, but also reduces drawback stamina, making it arguably the most busted skill in Valheim. Crossbows will be leveled the exact same way, but replace the workbench with a black forge for repairs on your arbalest.

Fire at the back of the twig, reload, and repeat. Unfortunately, this skill will drive because you'll always be held back by the reload time between bolts with no way to accelerate it aside from increasing the skill itself. For blocking, dodging, and sneaking, you can leverage roughly the same setup with slight modifications. Starting with sneaking, you can simply just crouch walk into the back of twig.

Most useful commands

You gain more experience when sneaking near a creature undetected and twig counts. For an extra boost, you can equip the full troll set to bump up your sneak skill to reduce your stamina usage while performing the sneak. It's worth noting that when being forced to rest when out of stamina, rather than let the full stamina bar refill, start sneaking again at half. Stamina regeneration rate actually slows down the more full your bar gets with about halfway being optimal.

Keep this in mind for each of the strategies we'll cover today. For blocking, you're going to need to turn twig around because he'll need to be able to fight back for this one. Pretty simply, all you're going to do is stand in front of Twig and hold block. While you do get double the XP by parrying, I find the stagger applied to Twig takes far too much time and you're better off taking the half XP per block instead.

Unless you surround yourself with a whole bunch of Twigs. You get XP for every block and parry, so having multiple things attack you vastly accelerates this process. It's hard to predict the incoming attacks timing, but what I like to do is constantly tap and release block to give me a repeated chances of perfect blocking. And worst case, if you miss, you just get the block for half the XP.

Cheats and trainers

The Evasion Mantle II is the ideal trinket to assist here, reducing block stamina by half. Be careful though, as you may need some healing meats, especially when up against a bunch of Twigs. Dodging levels the same way as blocking, where just performing the dodge gains XP, but a perfect dodge gains way more. Like before, your best bet is to surround yourself with Twigs and spam dodge.

Not all your dodges will be perfect, but considering the relentless attacks, there's a good chance most will be for the increased experience gain. Like before, the Evasion Mantle helps here, increasing your dodge skill by 20 to assist further with stamina usage, and a berserker meat once again can be used to reduce it by 80%. For riding, running, and jumping skills, we'll continue using our same Dojo, but we won't need Twig in this case, so remove him to allow us to get the improved resting buff. Starting with running, simply find a wall and run into it.

Skill experience is awarded for time spent running, even if you're not moving anywhere, making wall running the optimal approach. Same as earlier, the Ask Armor set bonus, Lingering Stamina, and Tasty Meats are recommended, and having Eikthyr's Forsaken Power at the ready when available to reduce stamina regen by 60%. For riding, adopt the same exact strategy, except obviously hop on a mount and run against the wall. It's not clear to me how stamina regen works for tames and the wiki doesn't offer much info.

Tips

It did appear to regen slower when my Ashvin wasn't fed, so consider feeding them to reduce the regen time. Jumping on the other hand is a bit different. Experience is awarded for each jump, so to optimize experience gain, you want to lower the height of the jump. To do this, place a floor piece just above the height of your character, walk underneath and spam jump.

Due to the restrictive height, you'll be able to jump more frequently, increasing the rate of leveling. You can take this strategy to busted levels by reducing jump stamina usage to zero by combining the 30, 10, and 60% combined from the light foot mead, ask set bonus, and Icthyus' forsaken power. And hopefully you don't get raided while working on your skills. Next, for mining and wood cutting, we'll have to leave the warmth of our Dojo for another.

For wood cutting, place the enclosure around an oak tree, ensure it's sheltered with a fire nearby for the resting buff, and a workbench next to you for repairs. Grab a flint axe and whale away on the tree. Despite the axe not having the ability to successfully chop, you still gain experience. For this reason, you can chop indefinitely, only forced to stop to repair your axe as you go.
