Quick answer

Are you like me, pushing the mountains with poverty tier gear? So, the swamp is without a doubt Valheim's ugliest biome. When choosing your armor, there are four main factors to consider. Did you bring the root chest into a biome where it hurts you more than helps you?

It never stops raining, so you never lose that annoying wet debuff, and there's no passive mob, so literally everything is out to kill you. But let's try and actually fight one and see how difficult they are. Or at least I think I do. It's one of those biomes Valheim players go to to get what they need for progression and get the freak out.

Right here we have the Lox fur armor. He's also not terribly hard to beat. Oh, well, that makes it even easier. Yeah, by the way, he blows up.

And that gets us Rithan roots, which unlocks the Lox fur hood and the shield of roots. But we'll talk about that very shortly. I believe you're able to read. But it also made the Lox fur hood pop up on my screen.

Creature basics

I had killed a Lox prior. Well, that is if you want a full set, because only the helmet requires the roots. If anything, me wearing this root chest actually makes it safer for me to be in the plains than it does in the mountains at this point. Exhibit A, Deathskito used to be something I was scared of.

I'm wearing upgraded bear armor and a root chest. I am I am slumming it. So, these guys don't even matter. Probably probably the only thing I'm scared of does 11 damage.

I can parry it and one shot it. Most of the stuff in the plains is pretty squishy. The only thing I'm actually kind of scared of is the thing I need to get the armor from. Now, there's two ways we can go about getting these Lox pelts.

We can throw these cloud berries on the ground near the Lox, run away, and hope they slowly tame. We could dig a hole to lure the Lox into and trap them in there and tame them that way. But, if you're like me, you prefer a more direct approach. Yeah, by the way, the flame fuling this is this is the major threat on the plains for you.

Where to find it

This is the scariest thing and I'm not rested. The spear thrower, he's not even a threat. By the way, I'm using a flint spear. I have a iron shield that I upgraded once and I have pretty garbage tier food to be pushing the plains and we're going to go fight this Lox.

All right, if you're attempting this, just make sure you got your food up, make sure you got your rested buff, and these guys aren't terribly hard to pull. Should you do this with a flint spear? No, I do not recommend it. Am I going to do it anyways?

If you want me to be honest with you, this isn't terribly hard. Like, you can just circle to the left abominations route and just poke them. Just be ready to dodge away every once in a while. And be ready to get bit.

This is a long tedious process with the flint spear, but it can be done. Am I going to do it? This is actually my second Lox that I'm killing with a flint spear and now he's fleeing cuz he knows I'm the apex predator. I'll be honest, I don't even know if I should try and parry this guy.

Behavior and attacks

Oh my god, I parried him. Oh, but I got knocked so far away, it doesn't even matter. Out here in the wild in the plains, we see the gentle lox fighting the fearsome bear. Who will come out on top?

Will it be the mighty swipe of the Oh my god, he got bodied. All right, I mean, to be expected. At least he he weakened him a little bit. Last hit, told you it could be done.

By the way, even the one star fullings aren't even that bad. You just got to play smart. But regular fullings in this biome really shouldn't be a threat to you. Only the torch fulling, he's the only one I fear.

Him and technically the shaman, but we're just here for lox. Now, currently I'm rocking level three root chest, level three bear helmet, and level three loincloth of the bear. And that's got me at about 35 armor counting my level one deer cape. If I put on just a level one lox fur jacket and lox fur trousers, I go up to 44.

Combat strategy

I haven't decided to tame anything. If you find a roothen, you're up to 49. That's an extra five over that. So, you're looking at a 14 armor difference if you decide to craft the whole set.

AKA, as soon as you get out of swamps, you have the ability to go and get yourself some plains level gear. All right, which then brings up a really good question. How much better is this plains level gear compared to what I came out of the swamp with? I mean, it was good enough for the plains.

Let's see what he hits me for. Kind of like a solid 30 damage. I didn't even upgrade the chest or pants either. If we add on the helmet, we go down to 20.7, 21.5.

So, about a 9 to 10 damage difference. Now, we got another enemy to test against. Back to um a mixed set of bear and root. By the way, my bear and root is all level three, and that really hurt.

Tips and mistakes

Let's get hit by another volley. Try and get hit by as much of it as I can. Let's see if we can hit again. Let's add the helmet just to be sure.

So, I'm not seeing a big difference in going from my level three bear head to the level one lock's fur hood, but it is nice to get the set bonus. Now, nobody in their right mind would wear root chest armor to go fight the cultists, but yeah. This is This is not good. That could still cook your health bar if you're low enough, but like at least you're living.

Yeah, you'll live to see the day. And last thing I'll bring up, it does have a pretty decent bonus to bows, kind of just like the root armor set, plus 15. I suck with bows, so not a big help to me, but if you're a bow player, you might like to go into the mountains with a slightly better bow armor set. So, I guess it's time to answer the question at the beginning of this video.

Does lock's armor make the mountains easier? But, if you just leave it as level one lock's armor, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference. If anything, just don't be a silly goose and wear a root chest to go fight cultists. For me personally, I don't even really like going to the mountains.
